Former House Republican leader Bob Ward is retiring as one of the two state auditors next week.
Ward's departure has been somewhat of a low-key affair as word has not yet spread quickly around the state Capitol complex. But with a farewell party scheduled for next week, the word is now getting out.
Ward will turn 64 on election day and decided to step down after nearly six years in the bipartisan office. The state has two auditors - one Republican, one Democrat - who work closely together and are confirmed by the House of Representatives. The previous Republican auditor, Bob Jaekle, had also served as the minority leader - like Ward.
