Chicago aldermen propose office to enforce city's wage, sick time laws

A group of Chicago aldermen is proposing the creation of an Office of Labor Standards to better enforce city labor laws approved in recent years governing minimum wage, paid sick time and wage theft.

The proposed office would be organized within the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection, the agency in charge of enforcing the city’s labor laws. Worker advocates and supporting aldermen say the department currently doesn’t have the personnel or resources to administer those ordinances effectively.
