NEW HAVEN — During a recent New Haven women's basketball practice, the range of coach Ty Grace's approach was on display.
Pushing for the right tempo in one drill, she shouted orders that echoed throughout Charger Gymnasium. Before and after that, there were much quieter one-on-one conversations with some players and calm group discussions with others.
Grace's second season as coach at her alma mater isn't over yet and it is one of the best in program history. The Chargers (26-5) defeated three teams in Garden City, N.Y., to win the East Regional and advance to the upcoming Elite Eight of the Division II NCAA Tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D.
