In less than two months the Little Traverse Youth Choir will depart on its first international tour to French speaking Canada and New York state.
The choir members have been working to raise funds to pay for the tour and they are indebted to many local businesses for their help in this effort. Mancino's, Buffalo Wild Wings and Pizza Hut sponsored fundraisers by sharing in a portion of their sales' profits and tips. Murdick's and Schoolhouse Gardens of Charlevoix also hosted fundraisers this year for the choir. Next week, the choir will present two important fundraisers to help pay for the tour.
The first fundraising event will be a dinner at Petoskey-Bay View Country Club from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 25. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for student and children under 5 are free. Tickets may be purchased at the chamber of commerce, the Bistro, or at the door. The buffet-style meal will be prepared by Shane Brown, head chef at the country club, and his wife, Jean, and will include a variety of pasta dishes, Caesar salad, garlic bread and chocolate buttermilk cake for dessert. Takeout is available.
A silent auction at the dinner will feature items donated by both area businesses and private donors. A raffle will also take place at the dinner where two lucky winners will walk away with a special collection of donations. Attendees need not be present for the raffle drawings.
Tea party -- April 28
The second event next week will be a Fancy Nancy afternoon tea party at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Stafford's Bay View Inn. In addition to tea, the event will offer an assortment of finger sandwiches and small desserts, as well as chocolates, donated by Kilwin's Petoskey, which will be served by choir members. In keeping with the Fancy Nancy best-selling children's picture book series by Jane O'Connor, the tea party offers children and adults an occasion to dress and act with style. Keepsake photos from the event will be available for purchase online. Cost is $7 per person. Tickets are available at McLean & Eakin, Booksellers in downtown Petoskey.
The Little Traverse Youth Choir still has a way to go before reaching its fundraising goal. To contribute, make checks or money orders payable to Voices Without Borders and mark LTYC in the memo section of the check; mail to VWB, 507 Alcan Road, Petoskey, Mich. 49770.
Anyone wishing to purchase an ad in the choir's tour book, can contact Jack Kukuk, executive director, (480) 236-2196 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Little Traverse Youth Choir will perform joint concerts with the Little Traverse Choral Society at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Petoskey United Methodist Church and at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Cross in the Woods Shrine in Indian River. Tickets will be available at the door. For additional information, check www.littletraverseyouthchoir.org.
