Ramona Carolyn Wubbels (September 30, 2013)
She was born on May 30, 1940, in Morton, Ill., the daughter of Fred and Alma (Olson) Bluhm.
Ramona married Laurence Wubbels on April 30, 1960, in Morton, Ill. She shared his life's work as a biologist for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service by raising three daughters in numerous remote areas of the United States.
Ramona loved gardening and was known for her lovely flower and vegetable gardens along the Boyne City-East Jordan Road. She explored her artistic life in ceramics, decoupage and making afghans. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and square dancing.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Gaylord, where she had served as the church secretary for a number of years. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Ramona volunteered for United Methodist Church as a youth counselor, American Red Cross, Antrim County's Star Township as an election official, as a leader for the Girl Scouts in North Carolina and assisted residents of local nursing homes in the areas where she lived.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Laurence Wubbels, of East Jordan; three daughters, Daria Wubbels Devantier and her husband, Jeff, of Howell, Mich., Kathryn Wubbels Estrada and her husband, Pablo, of Dallas, Texas, and Cynthia Wubbels McCune and her husband, Glen, of East Jordan; eight grandchildren, Marcos Estrada, Enrique Estrada, Estevan Estrada, Breyenna Estrada, Araceli Estrada, Nick Estrada, Tanner McCune and Rainy McCune; and two sisters, Betty Martin of Washington, Ill., and Wilma (Glenn) Stieglitz of Morton, Ill.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time.
