Petoskey Steel Drum Band performs in Charlevoix Thursday

The band has been an active performing group since its formation in 1997. They have performed throughout the state and the country including The Epcot Center, Walt Disney World, Mardi Gras in New Orleans seven times, the Caribbean Islands and Hawaii. Members of the band include 35 Petoskey High School students. The group performs 30-40 concerts a year, with 20 concerts during the summer. Members of the group also perform in Petoskey's Marching Band, Concert Band and various jazz ensembles.
In addition to their active performing schedule, the group has produced 5 CDs. "Jamaican Me Crazy," recorded in 1998, features upbeat summer music including "Jamaica Farewell" and "Jump in the Line." The band's second CD was recorded in 2000 and is titled "The Petoskey Steel Drum Band Steels Christmas." The third CD, "Steel in Paradise," has more of the traditional steel drum flavor but also includes some American favorites. The steel drum band's fourth CD is titled "Lord of the Pans," featuring a variety of tunes with the most popular the Celtic music of "Lord of the Pans."
The band just finished producing its first live DVD, "Live at the Venetian Festival," Charlevoix, 2010.
Their most recent CD, "Parrot Steel" (2012), features the music of Jimmy Buffet.
