Margaret "Lorraine" (Joyce) Brazones ended her long battle with diabetes and kidney disease on Aug. 6, 2011, at the Northern Michigan Regional Hospital.
Lorraine was born on March 1, 1925, in Richland Center, Wis., to Erma and Harry Joyce and was the sixth of 11 children.
World War II she returned to Madison where she met her husband, Donald, who was attending the University of Wisconsin. They were married on Sept. 5, 1949.
Currently, Lorraine and Don have been living in Independence Village in Petoskey, but have also lived in Byron Center, Mich., Fairfield Glade, Tenn., and Rockford, Ill., where she made friends with so many wonderful people in each community.
Lorraine was a friendly, loving, caring person who was devoted to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lorraine was loved and cherished by her children. Martha (Tom) MacArthur of Hopkins, Mich., Dr. Margaret "Peggy" (Dr. Howard Beck) Brazones, of Petoskey, John (Jill) Brazones of Roscoe, Ill., and Jim Brazones of Manitowoc, Wis.
The grandchildren who so enjoyed her special attention will miss her presence in their lives: Tim MacArthur of Belleville, Mich., Steve MacArthur of Mackinaw City, Danny Beck of Missoula, Mont., Sarah Beck of Puerto Rico, Laura Beck of New York City, N.Y., Joe Beck of Petoskey, Mark Brazones of Peoria, Ill., and Mary Brazones of Phoenix, Ariz. She is also survived by her sisters, Marie Wanless of Reedsburg, Wis., Kathryn Sponaugle of Madison, Wis., Louise (Don) Foster of Madison, Wis., Joan (Tom) Sinniger of LaCrosse, Wis.; and her brothers, Tom (Marge) Joyce of Richland Center, Wis., Emmet Joyce of Richland Center, Wis., and Patrick (Karen) Joyce of Cambridge, Wis.
Her absence will also be felt by many nieces and nephews who she loved to see at any family celebration, picnic, or visits to her home.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Jambois, and by two brothers, James and Joe Joyce.
A funeral Mass will be take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Petoskey. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today, Monday, Aug. 8, at the Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the church.
Memorial donations in Lorraine's memory may be directed to the Northern Michigan Regional Hospital Foundation or Brother Dan's Food Pantry.
