Local author signs debut novel Saturday in Petoskey

Three more books will soon will be added to the James Bay Novel series -- "Home Fires," "Lotto Lucy" and "For I Have Sinned." In 2013, "Royal Secrets" will be released.
"Fatty Patty" is the story of Patty Perreault who is an overweight school teacher looking for love. When the new fifth-grade teacher takes over the adjoining classroom, she can't help but notice his good looks. It's then she decides to go on a diet. But things get complicated by an overweight accountant also looking for romance and Patty has to make choices about what really matters in her own life.
Paterka knows her main character well. By the time she graduated from high school, she weighed 300 pounds. The weight is long gone, but she still remembers the teasing and the names. Paterka received her bachelor of arts degree from Central Michigan University, worked in administration for the Catholic Church and also has been employed by a large Michigan law firm. She is now the resident staff writer at Castle Farms where she penned "For the Love of a Castle," an historical book about the history of Castle Farms.
