L. Thomas Soblesky (May 9, 2013)
Tom was born on May 30, 1933, in Petoskey, the son of Louis T. and Hulda (Wooden) Soblesky. At a young age, his family moved to Saginaw, and Tom grew up there, graduating from Arthur Hill High School in 1951. He then co-oped with GMI at the Central Foundry.
Tom continued to work at Central Foundry for 28 years, before going to work for Saginaw Steering Gear, where he was a manager at the Alabama plant for 18 months before being transferred to England and Spain, where he continued to serve as a manager for the remaining nine years of his career.
On May 18, 1983, Tom married Janice Skrocki in Petoskey and together they resided overseas until 1990 when Tom retired and they returned to Petoskey.
Tom was a member of the Holy Childhood parish in Harbor Springs, where he served on the finance committee and at the day care center, the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club, the United Way, the GM Retirees Club of Northern Michigan, the Country Club of Boyne, and served as a past president of the American Foundry Association. He loved to ski, golf, read and socialize.
When Tom made friends, he made friends for life. He will be truly missed by his family, friends and coworkers.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; son, Thomas (Joni) Soblesky; four grandchildren, Lauren (Vincent) Aquista, Kristina Soblesky, Jessica Soblesky and Tommy Soblesky Jr.; and by three cousins, Bette Schipper, Blair Thompson and Mary Kay Johnson.
A memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Harbor Springs. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
