Joseph Partyka (June 11, 2013)
He was born the son of Francis Partyka and Marian (Petak) Partyka on Jan. 13, 1913, in Pellston. Joe, his mother and five brothers moved to Detroit in 1920. He attended St. Alberta, and graduated from eighth-grade in 1928. Joe's education at Cass Tech High School was delayed while taking care of his mother. He completed high school by attending classes at night.
He married Stella Durkalic on Oct. 7, 1939, in Pellston, and they lived in Detroit. He retired from the GM Tech Center in Warren in 1973. Joe and Stella moved to Pellston after retiring in 1974.
Joe was a tool maker by trade and loved to use his talents in wood working to create items for his home and grandchildren with perfection. He loved observing nature, working outdoors, gardening and having pets. Joe was a member of St. Clement Church in Pellston, and he helped build the parish hall (quonset).
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Stella; son, Joe Partyka, of Hartland, Mich; daughter, Joann Kozlowski, of Westland, Mich.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter Ciego, Frank Cieglo, Vern Cieglo, Stanley Partyka and John Partyka.
A memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at St. Clement Catholic Church in Pellston. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the St. Clement Cemetery.
The family has entrusted arrangements to Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey.
