Duane D. Hasse, of Petoskey, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the age of 75.
Duane was born on Oct. 20, 1937, to William and Sybil (McManus) Hasse in Saginaw, where he also grew up and attended school. He was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School, class of 1955. He went on to attend Bay City Business College and later Ferris State University where he played on the football team.
A wonderful husband and loving father, Duane did everything within his power to ensure a warm, safe and happy life for his family. He had a terrific love for the game of baseball and gave of his time generously helping to coach and mentor not only his children but also a host of young players through Little League and Babe Ruth.
Duane is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Judy, and by his brother, Terry (Mary Ellen); Duane and Terry shared a very close bond, more father and son than brother to brother. Duane's children include, Kim (David) Vaderlip of Saginaw, Tim of Petoskey, Todd (Laurie) of Boyne City and Brad (Kristin) of Alanson. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Elizabeth and Chris Hasse, Courtney (Matt) Fruge, Jourdan (Chris) Mason, Corbin Vanderlip, Clark Hasse and Sara and Anna Hasse, and three great-grandchildren, Maliki and Levi Fruge and Trystyn "Angel" Mason. Also surviving Duane is his sister, Beverly (Jim) Trier, and brother, William (Elaine) Hasse. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Donna Shuler.
Duane's life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 11, at Stone Funeral Home with pastor Stephen Beigle officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 10, and again on Monday beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will take place within Greenwood Cemetery.
