Dorothy Ann Johnston, long-time resident of Petoskey, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 27, 2013, at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.
She was born Feb. 2, 1944, in Cheboygan, to John and Martha (Yankoviak) Diekman and was a graduate of Cheboygan Catholic High School.
On May 16, 1964, Dorothy married Gerald "Jerry" Johnston in Petoskey. Together they raised two sons.
Dorothy was a woman of strong will and character. She was a loving wife and devoted mother. She suffered quietly for years from the effects of chronic and debilitating pain. Her family and friends will forever remember her strength and courage.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jerry, and by their two sons, John and wife, Denise, and Jeffrey and his friend, Jackie. She is survived by two grandchildren, Alexandra and Sam Johnston. Also surviving is her brother, Mark and wife, Janet Diekman, and sister-in-law, Barbara Diekman. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brothers Paul and Joe, and sister, Helen.

Visitation for Dorothy will take place 6-8 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 29, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass celebrating her life is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Boyne Falls; the Rev Francis Partridge will act as celebrant.
