The Wawatam Area Senior Center hours for congregate meals are 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 1 p.m. Sunday. The center is open every day at noon for recreation, Wii, card games and use of computers (internet service). The center is located on Cedar Street in Mackinaw City.
Charlevoix Area Hospital and Lawrence Technological University are sponsoring free Wellness Wednesday Health Screens at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24. The health screens include: total cholesterol, HDL, ratio, and glucose levels, body mass index (BMI) score, fat percentage, and a blood pressure reading. No fasting is required. Participants will also receive a blood pressure log and pedometer as well as all test results at the time of the screen. A Registered Nurse will adapt health consultation and educational materials to individual results. Appointments are on a walk-in/first-come basis. A heart healthy celebration for Tim Russell will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Oden Community Center in Oden. The event, sponsored by Blissfest, includes a 50/50 raffle. The pasta dinner is provided by Reasonably Catered. $10 per plate, $25 per family.
North Country Community Mental Health is sponsoring its 2nd annual Fun Walk for Autism Acceptance on Saturday, April 27, at Veterans Memorial Park in Boyne City. On-site registration begins at 9 a.m. and the Fun Walk begins at 10 a.m. (approximately 1/2 mile in length). Registration fee is $10 and T-shirts are guaranteed for those participants registering prior to April 3. The Community Free Clinic offers free, temporary, health care services to Emmet County residents who are low-income, without health insurance and are not included in a government health program. There is a walk-in clinic on Wednesday evenings sign-in and screening are offered anytime after 1 p.m. with patients returning to the clinic by 5:30 p.m. when the volunteer staff arrive. Sign-in is discontinued at 6:30 p.m. There is an appointment clinic on Monday afternoons from 1-5 p.m. Bring photo ID, proof of residency, and verification of income.
