"This past year we celebrated our 20th anniversary with the theme 'Deeply Rooted, Growing Stronger,'" said Chip Hansen, foundation president, in a prepared release. "It seems fitting that we are putting down roots of ownership in Charlevoix County, deepening our commitment to the region and to bettering the lives of everyone who lives here."
The gift of the land and building (formerly the Quilt Cottage) came from Fred and Barbara Malpass, and the new construction was made possible by gifts from The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, the Frey Foundation and the Malpass Foundation.
"We are so fortunate to have community members who believe in our mission and who are looking toward the future with us. Their foresight and generosity are creating the conditions for the community foundation to continue taking positive steps forward," says Valerie Snyder, chair of the foundation board of trustees.
Every space in the newly renovated facility has been designed to support the work of the foundation's staff. The facility will include private spaces for staff to conduct day-to-day business, as well as multifunctional spaces that can be utilized by staff in meetings with community members and the foundation's youth advisory council. The final layout includes four offices, with room to grow, one small conference room for meetings of six to eight people, and a larger meeting space to accommodate advisory committees and to meet the needs of local nonprofit agencies.
"We are growing in every way," said Hansen. "Our grant-making capacity, our assets, and our community engagement are all growing. Now we will have a permanent place to bring people together to support that growth for the long-term."
The Charlevoix County Community Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to improving and enriching life in the area. The foundation accepts gifts from individuals, families, businesses and civic groups and manages them as permanent endowments. Every year, a portion of the investment income is used to support programs in education, the environment, the arts, human services, health and wellness, youth activities, community development and various civic projects. The principal of the endowment continues to grow, providing perpetual charitable capital to benefit Charlevoix County's residents and nonprofit organizations.
Since it was founded in 1992, the foundation's net assets have grown to more than $26 million, and grants and scholarships totaling more than $13 million have been distributed for the common good.
The foundation welcomes inquiries and grant requests. The next deadline for submitting a grant request is Oct. 1. For more information about grantmaking opportunities or about the community foundation, call (231) 536-2440 or visit the foundation's website at www.c3f.org.
