Grandfather William "Bill" Carey, of Laurel, announces the graduation of his granddaughter Tashana Johnson, of Baltimore, from Eastern Kentucky University. The daughter of Vaughn and Sandra Johnson, of Baltimore, Tashana will enter Johns Hopkins University to pursue her Master's in elementary education. Granddaughter Monet Ford, of Laurel, daughter of Deborah Carey Ford, of Laurel, completed the semester at Coppin State University with a 3.6 GPA.

Keith Suarez, of Laurel, was named to the dean's list for the August and October 2011 eight-week sessions at Columbia College, in Columbia, Mo.
Ogechi Irondi, of Laurel, a senior educational studies major at Swarthmore College, in Pennsylvania, has been selected for this year's class of the Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fund Aspiring Teachers of Color. She is an intern for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Whole Child Initiative, a coordinator, mentor and tutor with Swarthmore's Dare 2 Soar program and a runner on the college track team.
This fellowship is made possible by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Fund. The Fellowships for Aspiring Teachers of Color were created to help recruit, support and retain individuals of color as public education teachers and administrators. Ogecki will receive a $30,000 stipend to complete a master's degree in education, preparation to teach in a high-need public school, support throughout a three-year teaching commitment and guidance toward teaching certification.
