Famous Cuban blogger Yoani Sánchez spoke Monday at a public meeting at Miami-Dade College’s Freedom Tower in downtown Miami. The stop was part of a world tour the writer is taking that included a visit to Washington D.C. over the weekend and a meeting with Miami Herald’s editorial board yesterday.
Sánchez, 37, writes a blog called Generation Y at http://www.desdecuba.com/generationy that is translated into several languages. She is known as a dissident activist in her native country and her observations on daily life in Cuba are shared on the blog and on social media
Her tour to other countries is intended to shed light on how life in Cuba is changing. More international tourists mean an increased exposure to new technologies such as cell phones. She also talked about the changed in leadership in Venezuela and how it could effect Cuba, a close ally to the Hugo Chávez regime.
