Tulsa is coming off an 11-win season, which was the fourth time in the past six seasons that the Golden Hurricanes have won 10-plus games. The team’s appearance in the Liberty Bowl was its seventh bowl game in the past eight seasons.  The Golden Hurricanes are making the move to The American Conference starting in 2014, but before then they must wrap up one final season in Conference USA. With six new members making their debuts in 2013, Tulsa should be one of five teams to surprise in 2013.

The Buzz: Tulsa returns 10 starters from last season team – seven on offense and three on defense – including quarterback Cody Green and linebacker Shawn Jackson. The offense was ranked 28th in the country in total offense (457.14 yards per game); first in Conference USA in rushing offense (245.7 yards per game) and third in the league in scoring (34.7 points per game). While Green directs the offense, it will be the running backs – Trey Watts and Ja’Terian Douglas – who will make the offense go. Both accounted for 2,044 yards and 10 TDs last season with Watts earning Most Valuable Player honors during the team’s title championship game.  … Tulsa led the league in total defense (347.8 yards per game) last season, but only returns three starters from that unit including Jackson, whose 18 career sacks is just two shy of tying the school record. The team’s non-conference schedule features winnable games against Bowling Green and Colorado State before facing Oklahoma on the road and a rematch of Iowa State at H.A. Chapman Stadium. Meanwhile, Tulsa should have little trouble wrapping up its third C-USA title in the last eight seasons.
