Hurricane forecasters continue to watch an area of disturbed weather about 850 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
In its 8 p.m. update this evening, the National Hurricane Center said the tropical wave of shower and thunderstorm activity has become a little better organized in the past couple of hours.
Forecasters say they expect that a tropical depression will form in the next several days as the system moves generally westward at about 10 to 15 mph.
The NHC forecast calls for a 50 percent chance that the system will become a tropical depression in the next 48 hours. The chances go up to 70 percent over the course of the next five days.
