Orlando singer/songwriter Beth McKee talks to Jim Abbott about her upcoming album and plays a little of her song "Unraveled"
Orlando singer-songwriter Beth McKee started her musical career in New Orleans and embeds the creative DNA of that destination into the albums that she has recorded here in recent years.
That catalog includes "I’m That Way" (2009), a well-received tribute to legendary New Orleans songwriter Bobby Charles, and "Next to Nowhere," a 2012 collection that featured McKee’s own songwriting against a backdrop that was a sonic hybrid of Bonnie Raitt and Marcia Ball.
There will be more of McKee’s songs on an upcoming studio album that the singer says will combine "danger and funkiness" in its arrangements. On the latest edition of Soundboard Talks, McKee chats about the new project and the Kickstarter fundraising campaign that she has launched to support it, then offers a taste of the new music.
