Jay Gruden has come a long way since 2006.

Eight years ago, he was synonymous with the Orlando Predators as the Arena Football League team's highly successful coach. Now he is in his first season as coach of the Washington Redskins.

As for his former team, 2006 was the last time the Preds had won their division — until now. South Division champions again, they will host the Pittsburgh Power in their first postseason game at 2 p.m. Sunday at UCF's CFE Arena.

"Things are always going to change, regardless of the fad or what's cool or what's 'in,''' Preds coach Rob Keefe said. "I'm sure Instagram won't be cool in five years."

Here's a look at the changes involving the team, city and society in general since 2006:

The Preds played their home games then at Amway Arena, which no longer exists, and are nearing the conclusion of their only season at UCF's CFE Arena, which did not open until 2007.

Lou Pearlman, manager of boy bands such as New Kids On The Block, Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, was caught running a Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors out of nearly $300 million. He is serving a 25-year prison sentence.

Keefe won an ArenaCup championship as a player for the Spokane Shock in the AFL's then-developmental league, af2.

The Orlando Magic selected Duke guard J.J. Redick in the first round of the NBA Draft. Redick is now with his third NBA team, the Los Angeles Clippers.

Greg Carr, the Preds' top receiver with 113 receptions for 1,435 yards and 36 touchdowns, was a sophomore at Florida State.

Starting quarterback Bernard Morris, who played at Jones, was a junior at Marshall.

The Seattle Seahawks lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl eigth years ago. They won the NFL championship in February.

The Orlando City Soccer Club Lions weren't around, but the Orlando Falcons of the Women's Premier Soccer League were.

In 2006, Tim Tebow was beginning his freshman year at the University of Florida. Now? There's a thing called Tebowmania, and new Preds owner David Siegel wants him to play in the arena league.

Speaking of Siegel, construction began on the 90,000-square-foot mansion dubbed "Versailles" on Lake Butler in Orange County in 2006. It still isn't finished.

Construction also began on the Freedom Tower in New York City.

Barack Obama was a U.S. senator from Illinois, asking President George Bush not to raise the debt ceiling.

The iPhone didn't exist! Neither did iPads, e-readers, such as the Kindle or Nook, or Instagram. Oh, and Twitter was born in 2006.

Pluto lost its status as a planet. Ouch.

Britney Spears and K-Fed split! O.M.G. So did Pam Anderson and Kid Rock, Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, and Paul McCartney and Heather Mills.

Western Union discontinued its telegram service.

LeBron James was still ringless in his first stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. This year, he returned to the team after winning two NBA championships with the Miami Heat.

The Preds lost in the ArenaBowl in 2006. How far will they go this year?

We are about to find out.
