Orlando's Roman Catholic diocese announced Friday that it will host a Red Mass for members of the legal community.

Bishop John Noonan invites Catholic members of the legal community such as judges, attorneys and legal assistants to reaffirm their commitment to justice and faith at the Mass. It is called the Red Mass because the vestments worn by the celebrants are red.

The Mass will be Monday, June 24, at 12:10 p.m. at St. James Cathedral, 215 N. Orange Ave., Orlando.

A luncheon and awards ceremony will be after the Mass, according to the diocese.

The honorees at the award ceremony are Judge Jose R. Rodriguez, who is to receive the St. Thomas More Award; and Pathways to Care, a shelter for homeless men and women, which will receive the St. Martin de Porres Award.

June 22 is the feast of St. Thomas More, who is considered the protector of workers in the legal profession. He was canonized in 1935 by Pope Pius XI.
