Stan Van Gundy will not be the next head coach of the Brooklyn Nets.
At least that is the opinion of Sports Illustrated NBA insider Chris Mannix.
With Phil Jackson bowing out as a Nets coaching candidate, Van Gundy is commonly considered the most attractive NBA coaching free agent on the market. Even so, Mannix says Brooklyn is not interested in SVG.
"I've spoken to sources who've told me ... Stan Van Gundy is not a candidate," Mannix said on our Open Mike radio show. "It's possible that Jeff Van Gundy could get a call, but from what I understand Stan Van Gundy is not a top candidate for that job."
So where do you think Stan will end up coaching next year or will he bide his time and wait for the perfect job?
"I miss coaching, quite honestly," Van Gundy told me the other day. "I don't miss the travel or the time away from my family, but I do miss the work on the court with the team and the camaraderie of a coaching staff working together trying to get better.
"I've also loved the time being at home and having a more normal life. We can go out to dinner and go to a movie and all the things for nine months out of the year we were never able to do. I have no idea what the future holds. I'm pretty happy doing what I'm doing, and I absolutely love living in Central Florida. This would be a tough place to leave.
