The body of Arthur S. Sheldon, 67, was found Wednesday buried beneath underbrush and palmettos in woods behind a mobile home rented by Kimberly D. Smith, 44, and her boyfriend, investigators said.
Officers would not say how long Sheldon had been dead or release the cause of his death. He had not been reported missing, Lt. Ron Wright said. He has previous addresses in South Daytona and Daytona Beach.
Police released Sheldon's identity after his remains were examined by an anthropologist and a forensic dentist and his relatives were notified.
Investigators from the police department and the Volusia County State Attorney's Office are re-interviewing neighbors and others already interviewed in Robinson's disappearance. She vanished about July 1.
Detectives have interviewed Smith and her family but did not name any of them as suspects.
Smith told Robinson's son and others that the older woman had gotten married and was on an extended honeymoon in the Carolinas, police said. Investigators and Robinson's relatives doubt the story.
Smith sent a poor-quality photo to the son, Fred Roberts, 58, of his mother and a man named Rusty, according to a police report. The man, whose real first name is Russell, was found on Smith's couch and told officers he wasn't married to Robinson, the report states. He had suffered a stroke and told detectives that Smith and her boyfriend, David Enos, 37, were taking care of him.
Officers found a disabled woman in a back bedroom who said Smith had informally adopted her and helps manage her money, the report says.
Roberts arrived from his home in Baltimore on Sunday and found his mother's unit in Twin Oaks mobile-home park trashed and saw signs that other people were living there. He grew concerned when he hadn't been able to reach her for a couple of months.
Smith is in the Orange County Jail serving 364 days on a probation-violation conviction. She has a history of convictions for identity theft and writing bad checks.
