Driskel's pro baseball plans were a bit confusing for about an hour thanks to conflicting reports about his future.
WEEI reporter Alex Speier posted on Twitter Driskel had signed with the Red Sox, but his mother initially told the Orlando Sentinel her son has not reached an agreement with the team.
"No, he hasn't done anything since he was drafted," Mary Driskel told the Sentinel Wednesday night when asked whether her son had inked a Major League Baseball deal.
Jeff Driskel, a former dual-sport star at Oviedo's Hagarty High, was selected by the Red Sox in the 29th round of the Major League Baseball draft last month. Driskel was surpised by the news, posting on Twitter, “Got drafted by the Red Sox today. Did not see that coming.”
However, Driskel has made it clear he's fully committed to improving as the UF football team's offensive leader.
When former UF baseball player Brian Johnson, who is a member of the Red Sox organization, asked Driskel via Twitter if he planned to sign with the club shortly after he was drafted, Driskel replied via Twitter, “no sir lol."
