Lake Mary Prep senior Abby Hani joined long jumping’s elite 19-foot club on a busy Saturday of track field. She soared 19-feet, 5-inches in the prelims and 19-6¾ in the final at the Spruce Creek Invitational in Port Orange.

That is 1¾ inches off the national lead according to, and puts her among the top five performers in Sentinel coverage area history.

“As soon as I landed I said, ‘that’s got to be a 19’,” Hani said with a wide smile. “I lot of people have asked me when 19 was going to come.”

The Texas State signee also won the 200 and the 400 with an area-leading time of 56.61 seconds to duplicate the triple she accomplished at the 2012 state 1A meet.

FSU football signee Levonte Whitfield of Jones made his 2013 debut in the 100 with an area-leading 10.66 to beat Ohio State football recruit James Clark (10.68) of New Smyrna Beach to the finish line.

Other area girls bests, all recorded at Osceola’s Kowboys Invitational, were a state-leading 300 hurdles time of 43.74 by Olympia’s Ashley Lewis, a 38-4½ triple jump by Gateway’s Amber Jackson, and a 9:37.28 for Olympia’s 4x800.

Winter Park’s boys and Hagerty’s girls won Winter Park Relays crowns. Hagerty competed without Bryce Seymour, who is in New York for the New Balance Indoor meet.
