JACKSONVILLE – The Class 3A state track and field meet is underway at the University of North Florida, with girls 4x800-meter relay runners trudging through light rain on a rain-soaked track.

With unsightly weather forecast all weekend, the starting time was moved up one hour to noon on Friday. Field events are now set to start at 1, and running finals are moved up from 6:30 to 4:30.

The same adjusted schedule is set for Saturday's 4A championships.

The infield is dotted with puddles, as are portions of the jump aprons and runways, but the rubberized track at UNF will accommodate racing in the rain. Lightning, which has yet to appear in the vicinity, would be another story.
