A lot of people complain about absentee fathers in our society. Few people do anything about it.
For going on seven years, Haki Nkrumah has been one of the exceptions.
In 2006, the New York transplant -- and father -- put his own life on hold to launch the nonprofit Young Fathers of Central Florida. And next week, June 10 through June 15, is his big event: Father's Week. For five days, his organization hosts free forums and workshops aimed at dads under age 24. On the sixth day, he celebrates -- and raises funds for his charity's fatherhood programs.
His goal? Give young men the help and education they need to be responsible, caring parents.
Here's the line-up of events, which are free to all fathers and their families:

Callahan Community Center, 101 Parramore Ave., Orlando, 32805, and includes community leaders, service providers and others on newly released information about local and state initiatives.
