Staff updates at WKMG-Channel 6: a new hire and an encouraging health update.

Eryka Washington will join the CBS affiliate as consumer reporter, replacing Steven Cooper, who has moved to Atlanta. Washington also will work as a fill-in anchor.

Longtime viewers may remember Washington as a reporter and anchor at WESH-Channel 2, where she worked seven years before departing in 2010. At the end, she anchored on weekends at the NBC affiliate.

Washington also has worked extensively in public relations. Since leaving Orlando, she co-created Image Pro Media, a company that provides media training and consultation. She also recently worked as a freelance reporter at WCAU in Philadelphia.

The health update: Morning traffic reporter Jessica Sanchez is "doing very well," said WKMG General Manager Skip Valet. "We expect her to come back soon."

Sanchez is battling non-Hodkin's lymphoma and documenting her story through a blog called "Let's Be Honest" on WKMG's website.

Sanchez is likely to attend WKMG's Live Well Central Florida Expo from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The event is in the center court at Seminole Towne Center.
