Six of Central Florida's best-known divas are banding together this weekend in a cabaret to raise money for the Steinway Society of Central Florida.
"Divas in Concert" will benefit the society, which provides pianos and music education, such as piano lessons, to children who otherwise couldn't afford them.
"We believe music education is important for young children and support the Steinway Society's work to open doors to the world of music through piano lessons," says Carol Stein, a society board member.
Stein, a longtime Disney entertainer at Comedy Warehouse and Epcot's Rose and Crown pub, will be one of the women taking the stage for "Divas in Concert." The others are jazz singers Jacqueline Jones and Suzy Park; Michelle Mailhot of Vox Audio (formerly Toxic Audio); Michelle Amato, who sings with orchestras and can be heard on Walt Disney World parade and show soundtracks; and Carla DelVillaggio of "Simply Streisand," a Barbra Streisand tribute show.
The Carol Stein Jazz Band — Eddie Marshall, Barry Smith and Charlie Silva — will accompany the singers. Disney entertainer Mary Thompson Hunt will host, and the work of Jason Hunt will be on display.
"Divas in Concert" will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Orlando Museum of Art, 2416 N. Mills Ave., Orlando. Hors d'oeuvres will be served; a cash bar will be available. Cocktail attire is suggested.
Tickets are $45 per person, or $80 per couple and can be purchased at http://www.steinwayorlando.com/society/events.html
Checks will also be accepted. For more information, call 407-339-3771.
