Quick slant: The Florida State-Duke series has been a brief and very lopsided one. In 17 previous meetings, the Seminoles have won 17 games. This year, the Blue Devils will once again try to put a halt to the streak and become the final ACC team that has earned an all-time series win over the Seminoles.
About FSU: The 14th-ranked Seminoles (7-1, 4-1 ACC) have gotten back on track notching back-to-back wins in the two games following their 17-16 loss at North Carolina State. This week, they are hoping to respond to a loss of a different kind. On Monday, coach Jimbo Fisher announced that leading rusher Chris Thompson was done for the season with an ACL tear.
About Duke: The Blue Devils (6-2, 3-1) feature the ACC’s top punter, and one of its top quarterback-receiver tandems. Will Monday sets up poor field position for opposing offenses with his 45.8 yards per punt. Receiver Conner Vernon is just 93 yards short of tying former FSU receiver Peter Warrick on the ACC’s career receiving list.
What to watch
1. Duke quarterback Sean Renfree is a pocket passer who can get the ball out quickly. Sealing off interior routes will be the FSU secondary’s top priority.
2. On the whole, the Blue Devils are a technically-sound, fundamental team. Raw instincts and athleticism may not be enough to beat them.
3. Fullback Lonnie Pryor may take multiple tailback handoffs in this game.
