Geraldo Rivera of Fox News Channel landed an exclusive interview with defense attorney Jose Baez after Casey Anthony was acquitted today.
What of Anthony's future?
Anthony was acquitted of the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.
To those people still wondering who killed Caylee, Baez said, "Well I think that all came out in the trial. This was a horrible tragedy, an accident that snowballed out of control. And it doesn't get any clearer than that. The jury saw that and they're the ones that heard all of the evidence, not the propaganda and the speculation and the Frankenstein-like lynch mob that ensued throughout the last three years. But they heard the evidence what our system is based on. This is a tragedy and nothing less. It is what it is and we're happy for Casey and we're happy that Caylee's memory did not get diminished into this circus. Caylee's memory came out and rose above the circus. And that is what I'm most in touch with right now."
What about all the criticisms about Baez's competence?
"I think the competence arguments have fallen. I'm a defense lawyer," Baez said. "It's my honor to be a part of such a profession. While some may masquerade as defense lawyers, there are a unique group of people in this country that protect individual rights day in and day out in every court room across our great country."
