The first Orlando Predators game I covered, the kick returner actually bumped into my lens hood while backing up to receive the kickoff. I realized I was dealing with different rules and I backed up a couple of steps. I took a picture to illustrate the access at last weekend’s Predators/Jacksonville Sharks game.
The fans also have a great deal of access. I watched as Predators fullback Marlon Moye-Moore flipped a ball to a young fan who was leaning onto the field. The fans can reach over the playing field and touch the players during games. Fan access is encouraged by the league. T-shirt tosses and other prize giveaways during the game are constant and include the fans in the pageantry.
During the recent Predators/Sharks game, Orlando wide receiver Jason Geathers actually fell over the wall and was credited with a touchdown. (The touchdown was taken away due to a holding penalty, but nonetheless it was ruled valid.) These rules, where the field is almost part of the spectator area, makes for interesting interaction!
