The Hammond B3 organ, when placed in the care of a master, does wonders for the soul. On Friday, Grammy-nominated jazz organist and Hartford native Brian Charette plays a hometown gig at Black-eyed Sally's, just before his new funk-soul-groove album for SteepleChase Records comes out (preview it at kungfugue.com). As a sideman, Charette's worked with Joni Mitchell, Chaka Khan, Rufus Wainwright, Michael Buble and many others. But it's probably best to hear him doing his own thing.
Brian Charette, Feb. 3, 9 p.m., call for prices, Black-eyed Sally's, 350 Asylum St., Hartford, (860) 278-7427, blackeyedsallys.com.
