One of Elvis Costello's most popular songs, "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding" was not written by Elvis Costello. It was written by Nick Lowe. "Cruel to be Kind" is another pop masterpiece of Lowe's. He produced the Damned's first single, "New Rose," and all of Elvis Costello's first five albums, among other things. For a time he was married to Johnny Cash's stepdaughter Carlene Carter. He is nerd-pop royalty. Friday, Lowe will play an intimate set at Fairfield Theatre Company's StageOne, and it can be assured that there will be no empty seats.
