Spring Fling Renaissance Festival
The annual Spring Fling Renaissance Festival at Lock Ridge Furnace Park in Alburtis.
One of my earliest childhood memories is walking the streets of Bethlehem with my grandfather. As we walked, he would point to buildings and houses, telling me their history. Some of it was significant, and some of it was important only to him, but he made it all come to life.
Those experiences gave me a lifelong love for history, and a belief that it's important to recognize our past. In honor of Lehigh County's bicentennial this year, we have planned some great events.
A Community Bicentennial Celebration to showcase our rich and diverse heritage will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Agri-Plex on the Allentown Fairgrounds. The highlight of the celebration will be the induction of 23 people into a first-ever Lehigh County Hall of Fame. These are all people of Lehigh County who have achieved national recognition in different fields from athletics and arts and entertainment to business and broadcasting. In these pages, you will learn who they are. We hope you join us at the free public induction ceremony.
The Bicentennial Committee also has produced a commemorative coffee table book telling the story of 200 years of our history. In addition, funds are being raised to preserve and promote the George Taylor House in Catasauqua, one of only a handful of remaining homes of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence. A national treasure here in Lehigh County.
Please join us March 10 and support the great history and heritage of our wonderful county.
