Stephen Carter


Stephen L. Carter is a professor of law at Yale, where he teaches courses on contracts, professional responsibility, ethics in literature, intellectual property and the law and ethics of war.

Carter is the author of 12 books, including the novels "Jericho's Fall," "Palace Council" and "The Emperor of Ocean Park." His nonfiction titles include " The Violence of Peace: America's Wars in the Age of Obama," " The Confirmation Mess: Cleaning Up the Federal Appointments Process" and "Reflections of an Affirmative Action Baby."

He has a bachelor's from Stanford University and a law degree from Yale. He was a clerk to Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and for Judge Spottswood W. Robinson III of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Carter grew up in New York, Washington and Ithaca, N.Y., and now lives in Connecticut.
