Keno Will Be Part of State Budget, Committee Chairman Says

HARTFORD — Keno gambling will be part of the state budget "no matter what," said the co-chairman of the legislature's tax committee. Rep. Jeffrey Berger, D-Waterbury, has been pushing hard for months for legalization of keno, an issue pitting those who cite the need for increased state revenue against opponents who fear that it will lead to more problem gamblers. "Keno will be part of the revenue package, and I believe we have agreement that we will do it," Berger said. Berger has been the legislature's most ardent advocate for keno, a bingo-like gambling game that is popular in Massachusetts and is also played in New York state and Rhode Island....
