  1. An easy splurge for your choco-phobic Valentine

I love chocolate. Put a dessert flavored with it near me and I have to taste it. My wife, Gelila, will even sometimes hide little chocolate truffles for me to find in the house when I come home late after working in my restaurants. She knows that even a little taste of good chocolate will make me happy. So, like many people, I'm sure I'll be enjoying some of that delicious treat this Valentine's Day.

  5. Rice flour switcheroo

Q: The recipe for "KFC" Korean fried chicken wings from this week's (Jan. 30, 2013) Good Eating sounds very good, and I'd like to try it. Can you tell me if sweet rice flour is the same as non-glutinous rice flour? I have the former if that will work.

  19. Herbed biscuits

Decades ago, our family spent vacations camping in Arkansas. We'd eat out twice: Once for fried catfish and hush puppies and the other time for a pancake breakfast. Reading the menus in the Mountain Home cafe, my Chicago-born siblings and I would marvel at the odd-sounding options, especially biscuits and gravy. We knew biscuits: Our mom served them for dessert with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. But breakfast? With sausage gravy? Not so much.
