Taste of Chicago preview: Pizza to doughnuts to wurst

When the first Taste of Chicago set up on a stretch of Michigan Avenue between Wacker Drive and Ohio Street 35 years ago, 36 food vendors showed up to dispense ribs, egg rolls, gyros and more. It was such a huge success, the event moved to Grant Park the next year drawing some "800,000 cast-iron digestive systems" to what the Chicago Tribune called "Chicago's gigantic civic picnic." This iconic Chicago eating event returns to Grant Park July 8-12, looking a bit like it did three-plus decades ago — yes, Eli's Cheesecake will be back — but also different. There will be 60 food vendors, a mix of five-day vendors, pop-up restaurants and food trucks....
