Mike Azzie, a longtime friend of Oscar Pistorius, says the Olympic star is "on the verge of suicide" after being charged with the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
"I would say that, just speaking to him, that he is a broken man and that I would go as far to say that he would be on the verge of suicide," Azzie told South Africa's BBC3. "It really worries me."
Azzie said Pistorius "always seems to mention Reeva and to ask us to pray for her and her family. He has no confidence in his tone of voice and he is just a man that is almost like someone that is walking around in circles and doesn't know where he is going."
Azzie said Pistorius has been forced to sell his beloved horses to raise money to pay for spiraling legal fees.
Pistorius was released on bail on Feb. 22. He was arrested on charges of murdering Steenkamp on Feb. 14. Pistorius says he mistakenly shot Steenkamp, thinking she was an intruder in his home. Prosecutors believe he killed her intentionally after an argument.
