Just when we thought Brett Favre was trying to mend fences with the Green Bay Packers organization, the ol' gunslinger goes and disses the team's current star quarterback.
Get this: Favre told Sirius XM NFL Radio on Thursday that Aaron Rodgers was going to throw more interceptions and get sacked more than any other quarterback in the history of the franchise. What a jerk!
"Aaron has played extremely well, probably even better than anyone anticipated," Favre said. "But I knew he was capable of that, and that's why they drafted him. Barring any injury, he'll shatter everything I ever did there except for maybe consecutive games [played]. But the guy has been tremendous, great move on their part."
Did you catch that? Favre thinks all of his team records will be broken by Rodgers -- and guess who has thrown more picks (286) and been dropped in the backfield more times (438) than anyone else while wearing the green and gold?
OK, so Favre also holds the team passing records in just about every other category, too, including good ones like passes completed (career 5,377, season 372, game 36), passes attempted (career 8,754, season 613, game 61), yards passing (career 61,555) and touchdown passes (career 442).
So I suppose it's possible Favre was actually paying his successor a compliment. But why would I want to focus on that? You know how we media folk are, always looking for a negative angle.
Just ask Favre, who also told Sirius XM that the perceived rift between him and Rodgers was driven by the press.
"There were no problems between Aaron and I," Favre said. "I was well aware of the media making a big deal out of it. I knew it wasn't true; Aaron knew it wasn't true."
Media folk ... what jerks!
