Singer, songwriter and producer Linda Perry has been chosen as the "visionary" for the Art of Elysium's seventh annual Heaven Gala in Los Angeles in January.
Much of young Hollywood supports the cause by volunteering in hospitals, as well as by serving on the gala committee, which this year includes James Franco, Jade Jagger, Joe Manganiello, Topher Grace, David Arquette, Anna Kendrick, Elijah Wood, Kristen Bell, Camilla Bell, Kirsten Dunst, Moby, Olivia Munn, Eva Mendes, Kate Bosworth, Jamie Lynn Sigler and Amy Smart, among others.
Actress Ali Larter of “Final Destination” and her husband, comedian Hayes MacArthur, are slated to receive the “Spirit of Elysium” Award for their work as volunteers with the organization.
Each year, the chosen visionary is charged with creating a concept for the gala representing his or her vision of heaven on Earth.
To express her theme, “Heaven is Resonance,” Perry said she plans to produce an affair that “vibrates with harmonies.”
“For me, heaven is evoking emotions through sound,” said Perry, who composed Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” Pink’s “Get the Party Started,” and hit songs for Gwen Stefani Adam Lambert, Celine Dion and other top recording artists.
Slated for Jan. 11 at the Skirball Cultural Center, the benefit this year will have a sleek, natural appearance, making use of reclaimed wood and emphasizing music.
Perry said she intends to keep the look clean, serving vegan dishes to provide the “pop of color.” “I want people to see the beauty of food,” she said. “Food is supposed to be vibrant, fresh, filled with color.”
Perry’s predecessor visionaries have been filmmaker Jim Sheridan, artist Shepard Fairey, musician Mark Mothersbaugh, vintage clothing purveyor Cameron Silver and costume designer Colleen Atwood.
Tickets sell for $5,000 each, with tables of 12 priced at $25,000. For tickets or further information call (213) 387-3944 or check the organization's website page.
