OZARK, Mo. -- The Ozark School Board would like to announce Dr. Kevin Patterson will be assuming the position of Superintendent of Schools starting July 1, 2013. Dr. Patterson has served the District since 1987 in a variety of positions.
He started his career as a math and computer teacher assuming the extra duties of coaching football,
wrestling, and track. Dr. Patterson first served as an administrator in 1996 as Ozark High School Assistant
Principal. In 2002 he took over as the Junior High Principal where he served until 2006. Since that time he has served as the Assistant and Associate Superintendent.
When asked about taking on the additional duties associated with the role of superintendent Dr. Patterson
commented, “I have been in the school district for 26 years and have considered it an honor to serve the Ozark School District students and patrons in my past roles. The opportunity to continue to work with such a wonderful community of students, educators, and patrons is both exciting and humbling.”
The following is just a sampling of some of the changes Dr. Patterson has helped lead the Ozark School District through:
-Redrawing District lines with the addition of a new elementary
-Researched and implemented a new student information system: giving parents access to their student’s progress in real time
-Worked to provide a long range plan and direction for the District
-Worked to tie all salary schedules to one base salary ensuring pay equity across the board
-Worked with the Superintendent and CFO to provide a budget that meets the needs of all students and buildings
-Directed the research and implementation of a model technology classroom for all K-12 buildings
-Managed the technology infrastructure upgrades necessary to implement Ozark High School’s 1:1 initiative
-Directly responsible for the construction of West Elementary , the Multipurpose Facility, Transportation Center, Agricultural
-Vocational Center, and the East Elementary wing addition
-Managed the renovation of Tiger Paw Early Childhood Center and the new Ozark Career Center
-Responsible for the vocational curriculum and programs, adding programs like Construction and Trades, Automotive
-Technology, Sports Marketing and Media as well as bolstering existing programs such as FFA, Drafting, Project Lead the Way
-Has helped lead the technology curriculum into model 21st Century standards
-Has lead building improvements by assisting in the development of several Comprehensive School Improvement Plans (CSIP)
These are only a few of the many ways Dr. Patterson has changed the face of Ozark Schools. Anyone who
has been in Ozark very long will easily recognize him in the community. For those who have grown up in Ozark he is known as Coach or Mr. Patterson from his building administration days. It is great to know that a search conducted by the Missouri School Board Association covering the entire state, as well as surrounding states, has shown Ozark has invested their time and money wisely in preparing Kevin for his new role. Dr. Patterson has a drive exceeded by no other. Always the first one in and generally the last one to leave, Dr. Patterson has better firsthand knowledge of the interworking of Ozark than anyone else.
When asked his thoughts on the current state of Ozark, Dr. Patterson stated, “The Ozark school District has had some wonderful leadership and is in good fiscal and academic shape. I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to continue the tradition.”
