CAMDENTON, Mo. -- A 15-year-old boy from Dixon is in Juvenile Department custody after a fatal one-vehicle crash early Saturday on a Miller County rural road in which the boy was driving. The crash killed Collin Colvin, 15, of Iberia.
Chief Juvenile Officer Tammy Walden says the charge against the 15-year-old driver would be involuntary manslaughter if it was committed by an adult. Walden says more charges are possible after the Missouri State Highway Patrol completes its investigation.
Under Missouri law, because of the juvenile's age, it's also possible the case could be transferred to adult court because it would be a felony if committed by an adult. Walden says it's too early in the investigation to say whether that might occur.
Walden says the boy is being held at the Mary Dickerson Juvenile Justice Center in Camdenton.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report does not say who owns the 2002 Ford Windstar van that crashed, or whether other passengers were in it. The van went off the left side of a road, went through two fences and overturned. An ambulance took Colvin to the hospital in Osage Beach, where he died sometime before 3 a.m.
The crash was west of Iberia on Curry Road (labeled Cajun Drive on some maps), one-fourth of a mile east of Highway U.
