SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A Greene County judge recently convicted Ryan Hudson, 26, of Springfield for abusing his former girlfriend’s 3-month-old child. Following presentation of the evidence in a one-day trial on May 9, 2013, Judge Calvin Holden found Hudson guilty of child abuse.
The judge heard testimony that Hudson was responsible for the child’s care during the day
while the mother was at work. When the mother returned home from work on June 3,
2011, the child was not acting normal. During the early morning of June 4, 2011, the child began having seizures and was taken to a hospital.
The judge heard from several doctors who testified the child had numerous internal injuries
including subdural hemorrhages, retinal hemorrhages, and skull fractures. Each doctor
testified that these injuries were consistent with non-accidental trauma consistent with
shaking the child. As a result of these injuries the child has permanent vision loss in
On June 13, Judge Holden issued his verdict of guilty. Hudson faces a prison sentence up to seven years and/or a fine up to $5,000. Judge Holden set a sentencing hearing for Aug. 16.
