A.J. Ladwig took the loss for the Shockers, pitching eight innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits and striking out four. Tanner Dearman went 3-for-5 at the plate with a RBI and Garrett Bayliff went 3-for-4 with a RBI.
Kyle Lloyde got the win for Evansville, pitching 8.1 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out eight. Chris Pearson went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double and two RBI.
The Purple Aces jumped on the Shockers in the first inning with four runs. Kevin Kaczmarski singled to lead off the game and Shain Showers reached in the next at-bat on a throwing error by Ladwig. Both scored later in the inning on a double by Pearson. Andy Lasher hit the second straight double for Evansville to plate Pearson, and scored the final run of the inning on a foul out by McKibban.
As the third batter in the third inning, Dearman hit a ball hard at the shortstop who could not handle it, allowing Dearman to get to second base. Bayliff then singled to score Dearman and advanced to second on another error by Evansville. Tyler Baker made the Purple Aces pay with another single that scored Bayliff and cut the lead to 4-2.
Jonathan Ramon put Evansville up 5-2 in the seventh when he singled to lead off the inning and stole home three batters later as the Purple Aces executed a double steal. Kyle Pollock added another run in the next inning with a single through the left side that scored Jason Hockemeyer.
After Taylor Doggett singled and Dayne Parker walked, Dearman pushed across another run with a single through the left side, but the Shockers were unable to further their rally.
Wichita State and Evansville will play the final game of the series on Sunday at Eck Stadium. The game will begin at 1 p.m.
