A Sedgwick County employee is accused of stealing items from a dead body. FactFinder 12 has learned authorities are close to presenting the case to the District Attorney for charges.
We know the employee works at the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center. That facility does autopsies and other forensic work.
Sources have told Eyewitness News the employee was removing property from bodies, including gold teeth and selling them for cash at local pawn shops.
Wichita police confirm there's an investigation but declined to give specific details.
FactFinder 12 spent the day calling county officials because the county oversees the Forensic Science Center. So far the county has said the employee still has a job but won't issue any other comments. The employee hasn't been arrested and no charges have been filed at this time.
FactFinder 12 will continue following the story and will bring you updates when they are available.
