Wichita Police Crime Sheets: Friday, August 16

Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

You can read all of the sheets by going here: WPD Media Reports (click on the "Media Reports" tab)

Clothing NOT optional…
A 49/f was arrested for being nude in public.  Someone called police to report the incident, which involved the woman and another person.  Police caught up with them in a vehicle.  The report does not state where it happened.  The woman was arrested for Lewd/Lascivious Conduct.

Stolen while sleeping…
A 19/m says someone came into his room at a hotel in the 6100 block of W. Kellogg and stole his wallet while he was sleeping.  He thinks the door to the room wasn’t fully closed when he dozed off.  No idea who took it.

Slashed…twice…
A 30/m says he was headed out for work in the 700 block of W. 14th N. when he found the driver’s side rear tire of his car was slashed through the sidewall.  He says this is the second time this has happened.  The last time was two weeks after school started, this time, it was the second day of school (no idea if this has any correlation with the incidents).  He has no idea who is doing it.

Pulled from wheelchair…
A 54/m in the 10000 block of W. Chartwell says his son grabbed him and pulled him out of his wheelchair.  The fall left him with scrapes on his hand, but no serious injuries. There’s nothing in the report on what led up to the incident. The son was arrested.

Shut that dog up…
A 28/f says someone moved in next door to her in the 2500 block of E. Reva back in June.  She says the new resident has a yellow lab that’s kept outside…and barks continuously at anything and everything.  She called animal control, which advised her to make a police report.  She says the barking is disturbing her peace.

Scam…
An 18/m says he tried to sell his computer over the internet.  He was contacted by a potential buyer who sent him a cashier’s check.  That check was “excessively over” the price of the computer, and the buyer wanted him to wire the rest of the money back.  The report says he didn’t suffer any loss.

Maced while confronting shoplifter…
A 26/m says he and another person were maced after trying to stop a man from shoplifting from a business in the 7700 block of E. Kellogg.  The report does not state whether they were employees of the business.  The property was recovered. No arrests.

Take THAT, Redbox!
A woman say someone used some sort of “round object” to break the touch screen control pad of a video rental box.  That box was set up outside a business in the 100 block of N. Seneca.  The machine was damaged, but nothing was taken from inside.

Playground vandals…
A 40/f called police to report someone writing on playground equipment in the 1600 block of S. Edwards.  No arrests, but some pictures of the writing were submitted.

Robbed while in jail…
A 47/f says someone entered her home and stole some property while she was in jail.  The burglar came in through a rear window and there are no signs of force.

High on meth
A 50/m says a woman was acting erratically and screaming at people on the sidewalk in front of his home at S. Pattie and Boston.  Police believe the woman was high on meth and was a danger to herself and/or others.  She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Attacked with a cane…
A 38/m says a man attacked him and another person with a cane.  The man suffered a severe laceration to the head and had to go to the hospital for treatment.  The other person suffered a minor injury and refused EMS treatment.  The man was arrested.  Photos, clothing, video and the cane were submitted as evidence.

Selling magazines?
A 28/f says someone came by her home in the 9400 block of W. Sterling selling magazines.  The salesman didn’t have any brochures and was writing things down on a plain piece of paper.  She thought it was suspicious, so she called it in.

Creepy customer…
A 23/f says someone told someone else that she has a really nice voice and how would she like it if he came to her place of employment and waited for her after she gets off work.

Trying to steal a kiss…
A 16/f says she was walking out of a business in the 5500 block of E. Harry when she dropped her debit card.  She says she bent over to pick it up…when someone else asked her if she needed any help.  She said no, but the man grabbed her hand and tried to pull her toward him to kiss her.  She pulled away and started to scream…and the guy took off.  She noticed a surveillance camera pointed at them and asked the business if the incident was caught on the camera.
