Wichita police say a former Final Four Wichita State men's basketball player is under investigation for rape. The player is no longer on the team because he's out of eligibility.
Police aren't releasing the name, but say the investigation involves allegations from a 20-year-old female, who is not a student. Police say the investigation stems from an incident at a teammate's home over the weekend.
"It appears that there was some sort of get together over at this residence and during that time frame, late Saturday/early Sunday, is when it was reported that it happened," said Lt. Doug Nolte with the Wichita Police.
According to the incident report, the victim says she woke up to the suspect raping her Sunday morning.
Police say WSU and team members are cooperating with the investigation. Wichita State University Director of Athletics Eric Sexton released this statement regarding the situation.
"Wichita State University has been informed of the police investigation. We are mindful and respectful of all parties involved. Wichita State University and the Athletic Department take this situation very seriously, and are cooperating with the Wichita Police Department. At this time it is important to let the investigative process take its course. The University will have no further comment regarding this matter at this time."
