Are you looking for something fun to do this Memorial Day weekend and can’t decide where to go? Well don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Whether you’re looking for an exciting adventure in solving crime or in the mood to sit back and listen to some great music, there is an event for every member of the family this weekend.




1)      CSI: The Experience National Traveling Exhibit

Time: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Why you should go: If you’re into crime solving and investigation, the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation exhibit will be the perfect thing for you to do this Saturday. This exhibit is an interactive, hands-on experience which allows you to “follow the clues” inside your own crime scene. As a crime scene investigator, you must collect evidence, conduct laboratory testing, and build your case based on the evidence you collect. Don’t miss out on this thrilling adventure!


2)      Opera on the Lake

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Why you should go: The Wichita Grand Opera is ending its season on the lake again this year. This live performance has attracted thousands of spectators in the past and is expected to do so again this year. The event is featuring the WGO Soloists, WGO Chorus, and the Boeing Jazz Band which are going to be playing some popular opera melodies from “West Side Story”, “Daughter of the Regiment”, and “The Wizard of Oz”. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs and blankets and come enjoy this free outdoor event.


3)      Bottle Shock

Why you should go: This is a benefit that will be raising money to support the American Institute of Wine and Food with its scholarship program in culinary arts. This is a wine tasting event that will be paired with a movie. The movie that will be shown is the 2008 film “Bottle Shock”. This film is based on the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976 or the “Judgment of Paris,” which was a blind wine tasting competition that pitted French wines against California wines. Come join in your own “judgment” as you will partake in a blind taste test of four wines:  two California and two French wines and determine which you think is better. Other wine, food, and non-alcoholic drinks will also be available.


4)      Pump Boys and Dinettes

Time: 5:45 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Date: Friday - Sunday, May 27 - 29

Why you should go: This is the last weekend to come see this musical comedy show. This event will fill your evening full of entertaining music that includes a wide array of genres, including: country western, rock’n’roll, blues, and more. The performance takes place in the 1970’s and focuses on four pump boys who are small-town guys and two sisters (the Dinettes) who work across the street in the Double Cupp Diner. Watch the pump boys as they perform songs on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, harmonica, bass, and a second piano. The Dinettes also provide musical accompaniment on kitchen utensils. If you’re into musical comedies and upbeat music, this event is the one for you.


5)      Discovery Days

Why you should go: On the last Saturday of every month, the Museum of World Treasures offers a special educational program that is free for first through fifth graders. The theme this month is “Discovery Days”. Children will be allowed to investigate the museum and participate in creating a themed take-home craft. This event will be sure to provide your child with a memorable and educational experience.
